Weight management with wellbeing: how to manage your horses’ weight without making him/her miserable

It’s spring: there’s sunshine, there are lambs…..and there’s grass! None of us wants our horses to be hungry or miserable, so how can we best balance weight management and wellbeing? This practical seminar will review the scientific evidence around weight management, and help you design a weight management strategy that suits you, your horse, and your yard the best while keeping things as positive as possible for your horse.

    Dr Tamzin Furtado

Dr Tamzin Furtado is a social scientist at the University of Liverpool, where she studies equine welfare. Her PhD was around equine weight management, with a focus on positive welfare and the ways we can help people to help their horses. She works on projects across the equine welfare spectrum, including studying peoples’ perceptions of sport horse wellbeing, livery yard management, and anthelmintic resistance. In her spare time, she competes in endurance competitions, and also loves trail running in the Welsh hills.
