You can take the horse out of the field …. a look at the use of equine track system management
In this webinar, Dr Amber Batson will be discussing both the medical and behavioural benefits and potential limitations to using a track-based system in equine management. Recent UK surveys have shown that track systems are rising in popularity, particularly for weight management and other medical issues such as arthritis and respiratory disease.
A management system that encourages more freedom of movement and allows more social interactions can definitely have its benefits. This presentation will address what those can be, but will also look at the pitfalls experienced by track system creators and seen by professionals working in equine welfare so that we can improve the success when considering the use of such a system.
What do we mean by a “track system”?
– Can they be set up on any type / sized piece of land?
– What are the main benefits of such systems?
– What are the potential negatives for the animals, their caregivers and the environment?
– What are the alternatives?
