Dr. Jo Hockenhull

Dr Joanna Hockenhull is an animal behaviour and welfare research scientist at Bristol Veterinary School. She has participated in welfare research on a range of species, from leisure horses and livestock, to cetaceans, but her passion has always been horses. Jo’s PhD thesis investigated the prevalence of behaviour problems in UK leisure horses and their associated risk factors. 

Jo has worked in animal welfare research at Bristol Vet School for over a decade. Her research primarily concerns equines and farmed livestock, with a particular focus on the influence of human perceptions and attitudes on decision-making and welfare.
