Horses on the whole are competent swimmers although in the wild they swim relatively rarely.

Equine swimming pools are not unusual, but very few owners have one as they are expensive to install and maintain. Equine swimming pools became popular in Thoroughbred racing around 40 years ago, and many were installed for Thoroughbred racehorses and endurance horses in the Gulf countries.
