Dr Gillian Tabor reviews her highlights from the three day International Canine and Equine Locomotion Conference (ICEL9) held in Utrecht in August 2023.
All the recognisable names from biomechanics research were there, which makes for a very exciting meeting to be at. If you have ever written an essay or a dissertation that refers to equine movement, you will have referenced at least one of these experts – Hilary Clayton, Rene van Weeren, Filipe Serra Braganza, Lars Roepstorff, Thilo Pfau, Marie Rhodin or Russell Mackechnie-Guire – that were there this year.
On the first two days, there was the opportunity to listen to keynotes and presentations of the latest research, and on the third day, there were practical sessions based on both canine and equine locomotion.
Dr Gillian Tabor presented two abstracts, one on posture assessment and one on canine flyball.
There are many study presentations that she doesn’t mention, so take a look at the published abstracts for more details. These can be found on below.
This first podcast is from the first day of ICEL9 and day 2 and 3 are on the second podcast below.
