    Laminitis is an emergency and must never be underestimated. How a pony is managed from the first day can have a major impact on the outcome and the time taken to recover. If in doubt it is always best to proceed as though the pony has the disease.

    Veterinary advice must always be sought, both to provide pain relief and to ensure the correct management of the case. An experienced farrier will also be involved in the long-term management.
