Her Majesty and my privileged meetings with her

By David Marlin on 21 September 2022 Blog

On Monday 19 September 2022 – the day of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral – the country came together to reflect on the long and happy life of Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

The DDM family extends its heartfelt sympathy to His Majesty The King, The Royal Family and all those whose lives are affected by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We wish to reiterate our thanks and acknowledge the debt of gratitude to the late Queen, whose passing brings to an end a life of service, dedication and duty.

I first met the Queen in 1995 at the Animal Health Trust when she asked to visit to learn about the research I was leading for the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.

I then met her again in 2010 when I was invited to Windsor Castle for a private audience to discuss the study I ran comparing Monty Roberts methods for training young horses with conventional training techniques.

On both occasions, it was a great honour and privilege to meet such an inspiring genuine leader. Her Majesty showed real interest in the work we were doing and seemed genuinely pleased that horses, which we all know she loved, would be better off for our work.
