Webinar – Fat scoring like a pro (body condition scoring workshop) – Dr Tamzin Furtado and Dr Dee Pollard
❓ Can you tell if your horse or pony is carrying too much fat?
❓ Are you not sure what’s muscle and what’s fat?
This practical, interactive workshop will have us working together to condition score members’ horses, using different body types (including natives) to learn.
(Information on how to put your horse forward will be available soon.)
Dr Tamzin Furtado
Dr Tamzin Furtado is a social scientist at the University of Liverpool, where she studies equine welfare. Her PhD was around equine weight management, with a focus on positive welfare and the ways we can help people to help their horses. She works on projects across the equine welfare spectrum, including studying peoples’ perceptions of sport horse wellbeing, livery yard management, and anthelmintic resistance. In her spare time, she competes in endurance competitions, and also loves trail running in the Welsh hills.
Dee graduated with a PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology from the Royal Veterinary College in 2017. She spent a total of 7 years at the Animal Health Trust, including her PhD and taking on a post-doc position afterwards. Dee’s PhD and post-doc work looked at the epidemiology of equine laminitis in Great Britain and what we can do to help reduce the risk. Dee currently works at the British Horse Society and completed a Department for Transport-funded project investigating the perceptions and attitudes to road safety by equestrians in the UK. Dee also works with other researchers and veterinary surgeons to consult on data analysis and statistical methods.
