Why do we use saddle pads?

The reasons we might use a saddle pad could include:

•  Keeping the saddle clean
•  Wicking sweat
•  Improving saddle fit
•  To reduce saddle movement
•  Distribute rider and saddle forces more evenly and prevent high-pressure points
•  Fashion

Of these, probably the most important are distributing saddle forces evenly and reducing saddle movement.
