Researchers at the Royal Veterinary College are working toward developing a validated equine quality of life tool to objectively assess the impact of Cushing’s disease on an individual horse’s quality of life.
The tool will help support decision-making regarding treatment options for horses and ponies diagnosed with the condition. To help the project, horse and pony owners are being asked complete an online survey, providing much-needed data for the initial development of the tool.
The college research team, led by Aline Bouquet, a PhD candidate and research assistant, and supported by Professor Nicola Menzies-Gow, professor in equine medicine, and Professor Christine Nicol, professor of animal welfare, seeks to understand better the impact of the disease on the quality of life of horses and ponies.
